Character and Personality of Highly Effective People
The elements of Personality Ethic, such as communication skills, influence strategies, and positive thinking, are essential for success, but these are secondary, not primary traits. You can pick up quick, easy techniques that may work in short-term situations. But secondary traits alone have no permanent worth in long-term relationships. Eventually, if there isn't deep integrity and fundamental character strength, the challenges of life will cause true motives to surface and human relationships failure will replace short-term success. Only basic goodness gives life to techniques. To achieve great results, focus first on yourself – your deepest motives and perceptions – and then on your techniques. There are three main paths of the Personality Ethic: Positive Mental Attitude (PMA); People Skills (e.g. communication skills; influence strategies); and Win-Win Mindset. The clearer you are about what you value and believe in, the happier and more effective you will be. Beliefs are the assumptions we make about ourselves, about others in the world and about how we expect things to be. Beliefs are about how we think things really are, what we think is really true and what therefore expect as likely consequences that will follow from our behavior. Values are about how we have learnt to think things ought to be or people ought to behave, especially in terms of qualities such as honesty, integrity and openness. “The thought manifests as the word; The word manifests as the deed; The deed develops into habit; And habit hardens into character. So watch the thought and its ways with care, And let it spring from love born out of concern for all beings.” – Buddha |
